Animal Welfare & Professional Group Positions

National Animal Welfare & Professional Group Positions Overwhelmingly Against Breed Specific Legislation

If Breed Specific Legislation is such a good idea, why is it that virtually every National Animal Welfare & Professional group is against it? It is particularly telling that even the National Animal Animal Control Association is against BSL, because in many cases (and Miami is a good example), the only "science" considered in passing the law was anecdotal information given by animal control officers from that jurisdiction. It is also noteworthy that contained on the list are Canadian organizations, because Canada has a breed ban.

Listed below in alphabetical order are some of the national, important and noteworthy groups against Breed Specific Legislation:

  1. American Bar Association
  2. American Canine Foundation
  3. American Dog Breeders Association
  4. American Working Dog Federation
  5. Animal Farm Foundation
  6. Animal Legal Defense Fund
  7. Best Friends Animal Society
  8. Coalition for Living Safely With Dogs
  9. Colorado Veterinary Medical Association
  10. Dog Legislation Council of Canada
  11. Humane Society of the United States
  12. International Association of Canine Professionals
  13. Ottawa Humane Society
  14. Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
  15. United States Department of Justice
